Together We Accomplish More

[ad#co-1]

Yesterday I did ChaLEAN EXTREME Burn Intervals and Extreme Abs.  In this article I will just focus on Burn Intervals.  This workout started and I thought oh my this one is gonna be my favorite.  It was a combo of high intensity cardio- to get you to an short anaerobic state, alternating with lighter weight workouts for muscular endurance.

This workout was about 50 + minutes.  I have to tell you it totally kicked my butt.  I realized that I am not at all in the shape I thought I was and all other workouts prior to ChaLEAN EXTREME were childs play.  If you are looking for something to really challenge both your cardio endurance and your muscle endurance this one is it baby.  It was very intense.  On the weight segments I only used 5 pounds and in some instances I used 3 pounds.

I’m not gonna lie, I could not do the whole thing.  Occasionally I had to stop and walk it off.  There were a couple of times I stopped.  Just for 30 seconds.  Each time though I got back in and did what I could.  What I like about these workouts is that no matter where you are at in your fitness you can always adjust the workout to allow yourself to do.  That might mean keeping it low impact or using lighter weights.  The great part is that even if you feel it kicked your butt, you know that next time you do it you might be a little better at and gradually if you had to take breaks, you will find your self completing more and more without breaks.

The day will come when I will be able to do this whole workout, with no stops – no feeling like I am gonna throw up – then I will know that I have made major fitness improvements.  Until then I am a work in progress.  So although it was a tough, killer workout, I think it will prove to be my favority and my most accomplished workout.

I will get you up to date.  Until then I will keep pushing play.  I hope you are pushing play with me.  No matter what workout you are doing.  If you need to find a good fun workout please go to my site and shop around.  You can contact me anytime and I will happily help you out.  We can get in the best shape ever – together.

Tonight I will be doing Burn Circuit 3.  I will report back tomorrow.

Today was my day to do ChaLEAN EXTREME Burn Circuit 2. Right off the bat I have to say I really felt this one and I was dripping with sweat after. I, of course, think this is a good thing. Don’t get me wrong – It was not too hard to do. In fact you can use whatever weights you want and many times I really had to use lighter weights than I thought I would.

The main thing I noticed about these workouts is that the weight movements are very slow and controlled. There is no momentum being used so you will definately have to use lighter weights than you think. You know that you can quickly throw up heavy weights but when you are lifting slow and releasing slower that puts a lot of tension into the workout.

Again Chalene does alot of combo moves. Today seemed to be lunging and triceps, biceps and back movements. The workout was about the same amount of time as burn circuit 1, 40ish minutes including warm up and cool down. The movements seemed to be less awkward today, probably because I knew kind of what to expect.

So here’s a quick rundown of the moves:
Sumo squat with bicep curls, lunge with single arm tricep extension, deadlift with a dumbbell row, Sumo squat with overhead tricep extensions (hard:)), deadlift with double arm row, bowlers lunge (killer hip/butt move) with row, Abductor lift with bicep curl, foward lunge with double row and some killer 3 way pushups (some I had to do on my knees – I admit it). Throw in a couple of extreme sets and you about have it.

It was a good but challenging workout.  I believe tomorrow I have intervals.  I admit, I think tomorrow will be very challenging but I will report back after.

Don’t forget you can join me on these workouts or any work out you may be doing.  Join my team and we can kick it together.

picture-chalene-johnson-1So yesterday was my first day on ChaLEAN EXTREME and my first workout was Burn Circuit 1.  I have to tell you that anything that say EXTREME, kinda had me worried especially since I had never done the workout before.  I wasn’t sure of my fitness level.  I was pleasantly surprised that I really had no trouble getting through the workout.

So first of course, I went through the learning dvds and then I was off.  The one thing I liked is that it wasn’t ridiculously long, about 45 minutes including  warm up and cool down.  I didn’t have the selecttech dumbbells as Chalene had, but I did have free weights so I set out 5′s, 8′s and 15′s.  Yep I know I jumped from 8 to 15 pounds – stupid yes, but unfortunately I have no 10′s and no 12′s so I worked with what I had.

Burn Circuit 1 was mainly combo moves.  I will tell you as you will find in any workout that you do for the first time – there is that awkward feeling trying to follow and do the moves as good as you should.  You will not be used to working parts together as they do in the combo moves.  I am sure the next time it will feel much more comfortable.

A real quick rundown of the moves:  Sumo squat with a hip lift, lunge with a fly, dead lift with a fly, pushup with a leg lift (by the way she does very slow pushups – very hard, at least for me).  There was a lung with a core oblique rotation (the way you hold the weights on this one may be why my arms were shakey after the workout).  We did a bench press while working abs and a chest fly while working the butt.  There was also some squats with weight side bends.  These may seem hard but really once you get past the awkwardness of working two parts at the same time, it was not a hard workout.  It was good.

Today my muscles feel worked, not painful.  Today was a rest day – believe it or not.  By the way on a rest day if you still want to still login and get yourself registered for the daily prize, choose to do something easy on your rest day, like stretching or a short walk.  Today I walked my dog and I still was able to log that in and I’m registered for a chance to win.  Tomorrow is Burn Circuit 2.  I will report back and let you know how it was.

ce_new_thumbI am so excited.  I ordered ChaLEAN EXTREME and I just received it and probably as you are reading this post – I am doing the first workout.  I will be updating you on my progress – all along the way.  I will report to you on the different workouts within that program.  You will get a real persons perspective of this workout.  I promise to give you my real opinion on the workout and the meal plan associated with it.

Now I have been doing Team Beachbody workouts for years now.  I have always been a huge fan of Turbo Jam, by Chalene Johnson.  They are by and far my favorite workouts.  I have been working out for a very long time.  I was the girl you would find in the gym lifting weights like the boys.  In fact, 15 years ago I worked at a fitness facility.  I helped people start off their workouts.  I showed them how to use the machines and I did some personal training.  In fact, I was personal training while I was 9 months pregnant if you can believe that.  I have always loved a good weight workout and have always believed that they give you more bang for your buck than cardio.  Now that is not to say that I don’t think cardio is worthwhile.  I just believe that if you really want to see changes in your physique you really have to get in weight training.

After years in the gym, I actually became bored and unmotivated and I actually stopped going to the gym.  Thank goodness Team Beachbody came along with Slim in 6 and Power 90.  Those were my first Team Beachbody workouts.  And then came Turbo Jam.  Oh my gosh, they were fun.  I actually looked forward to working out and hated to miss a workout.  Now that is something isn’t it – to look forward to a workout.  Recently I pulled out my Turbo Jam workouts, it had been a bit since I had done them.  I came upstairs and told my husband that I had forgotten how much fun those were.

Now I am on to ChaLEAN EXTREME.  I have high hopes that it will be as enjoyable as other Team Beachbody workouts.  But I am choosing this one because I was to see huge fitness improvements.  I want to get ripped.  So we will see what happens.  Keep an eye for my updates on this workout routine.

kettleballLast time we talked about 5 of the 10 biggest workout trends for 2009 by ACE.  Today we will finish up with the other 5 trends.

Kettlebells: The reason for the surge in kettlebell training is that it gets back to basic training that requires functional, whole body fitness. Kettlebells require an individual to focus on whole-body conditioning because lifting and controlling a kettlebell forces the entire body, particularly the core, to contract as a group, simultaneously developing strength and stability. Kettlebell workouts engage multiple muscle groups, making it a great way to get a whole body workout in a relatively short period of time.

Boomer Fitness: Individuals age 50+ have the means, motivation and desire to enhance their quality of life through physical activity—and they are only growing. The 50+ audience continues to redefine our expectations about age, vitality and life, and has highlighted the importance of physical activity as we age. Since September 2007, AARP’s fitness initiative for boomers—aimed at providing a wide range of affordable fitness services to its 39 million members—has been going strong.

Technology-Based Fitness: From iPods to Cardio Cinema to exergaming (i.e., Wii Fit, Expresso Bikes) the latest in technology will continue to infuse itself in all aspects of fitness. Look for 2009 to provide more interactive video games that provide fitness benefits, as well as new inventions to make exercising a more engaging experience.

Event or Sport-Specific Exercises: Despite the emergence of new and trendy workouts, sports or recreational activities will remain a popular way to stay in shape. Participating in a friendly game of basketball or volleyball, training for a marathon, or taking a day-long bike ride are just a few ways that people are staying in shape and having fun doing so!

Mixing It Up: Traditional programming is changing from what we called linear progression to undulating as research shows similar if not better results. For example, mixing low-intensity cardio with intervals on different days, and mixing high-volume, low- intensity weight training with low-volume, high-intensity training on alternate days.
